importance of people management
Strategy is defined as the direction and scope of an
organization over the long term, which achieves advantage for the organisation
through its configuration of resources to meet the needs of markets and
stakeholder interests. (Johnson & Scholes 1997)
Major resources of an organization are;
- Human resource
- Financial resource
- Physical resource
- Information
These resources must be managed responsibly, effectively and
efficiently to accomplish organisational goals. Management is defined as planning,
organising, leading and controlling organisational resources to achieve its
goals.
People management is one of the functions of management. It
is also the most difficult part of management because the behavior pattern of is
not stable, emotionally unstable and complicated thinking among different
people. Thus, it is a daunting task for a manager to manage this important human
resource in effective and efficient manner. Nevertheless, they are the biggest
asset of an organisation and their contribution towards the organisation determines
success or failure of an organisation. Therefore, people management is one of the
important aspects of managing organisational resources.
